Latest Bio-Soluble Glasswool Launched

31/Mar/2000

The latest bio-soluble glasswool insulation is now being manufactured in Australia.

FARIMA represents those companies who between them supply approximately 60% of Australia’s annual $300 million industrial, commercial and domestic insulation market and who between them directly and indirectly employ 5500 Australians.

FARIMA Executive Director, Kevin Herbert, said in Melbourne today that the launch of the latest bio-soluble fibres in Australia was the most recent development in the glasswool and rockwool manufacturers’ ongoing occupational health and safety product stewardship.

"So as to meet the Australian community’s expectations that where possible, manufacturers should eliminate health and safety risks to workers, FARIMA members have introduced these bio-soluble products which comply with the latest Australian OH&S regulations", he said

Mr Herbert continued that the release of these new glasswool products in no way changed FARIMA members’ position with regard to glasswool products manufactured prior to 1 January 2000.

"FARIMA companies maintain the product safety claims for their former glasswool products – these latest fibres introduced since 1 January 2000 have been modified to comply with new Australian OH&S regulations.

"Simply put, by meeting the latest OH&S regulations, FARIMA member companies are continuing to fulfil their duties as responsible corporate citizens", he said.

Mr Herbert concluded that negotiations were underway with Australia’s major building unions to
finalise a handling code for use of the new glasswool products.
