New Glass Wool / Rock Wool Code Launched

21/Jun/2001

A national intra-industry handling code for Glass Wool and Rock Wool insulation was launched on 21 June 2001.

The code titled “Industry Code of Practice for the Safe Use of Glass Wool and Rock Wool Insulation”, was officially launched by the Victorian Minister for Workcover, the Hon. Bob Cameron, at a ceremony held at the Victorian Trades Hall in Melbourne.

The national code has been jointly developed by the Australia Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU), the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union, Construction, General and FEDFA divisions (CFMEU), the Communications, Electrical and Plumbers Union, Plumbing and Electrical Divisions (CEPU), and the Fibreglass and Rockwool Insulation Manufacturers Association of Australia (FARIMA).

The code, which is supported by a pocket sized Field Handbook for easy worker on-site reference (see over page), will provide the basis for the worker training courses by each of the supporting unions.

The parties to the Code believe its introduction will see a marked improvement in worker on-site health and safety conditions involving glass wool and rock wool insulation.
