ICANZ urges support for stimulus package
13/Feb/2009
The Insulation Council of Australia and New Zealand is calling on all parties to support the Federal Government’s $42bil stimulus package.
Mr D’Arcy, ICANZ CEO said, “Clearly our members have a direct interest in the package which will create around 4,000 jobs, but we would be fully supportive of any stimulus package that could assist the ailing building sector.
“Making energy efficient homes more affordable and accessible to all Australians is vital for the prosperity of our industry and has far reaching flow-on benefits for Australia.
“The economic multiplier will ripple well past the insulation industry’s raw material suppliers, manufacturers, installers and delivery drivers and translates to lasting financial gains and improvements to the comfort, health and well being of many Australians.
“The ongoing savings in house hold energy bills provide a significant off-set to rising energy costs and new energy generation capacity while delivering direct and ongoing benefits to the environment in greenhouse gas savings.
“The package also assists many less fortunate Australians to achieve the comfort levels they desire and need at a more reasonable cost, thereby leaving more money for rent, mortgage or other household budgetary items,” Mr D’Arcy said.
“And if we are to believe the climate change experts, this package will help to insulate Australians against the temperature extremes that are to come.
“As an issue of national importance, we urge all political parties to support this package,” Mr D’Arcy said.
